Our Physicians
HPG is the largest privately owned hyperbaric physicians group in the East Coast. Our staff has combined over 100 years of experience in the medical, physical and mechanical effects of hyperbaric oxygen and wound care management. Our physicians have extensive training in wound care and hyperbaric medicine, many with dual certifications. In addition to lecturing to medical schools and residency programs, our physicians stay actively involved on a national level to increase the acceptance of hyperbaric medicine.
W. Scott Alexander

Since 1990, Dr. Alexander has been serving the medical community in the areas of emergency urgent care, hyperbaric medicine, and wound care. He has also taken advanced courses in managing respiratory diseases, as well as extensive training in hyperbaric medicine since 2004.

Daniel Beless

Dr. Beless is the Medical Director at HyperbaRXs at Saint Joseph's (d.b.a. Hyperbaric Medicine of North Atlanta at St. Joseph's Hospital). He served as Director of Crawford Long Emergency Department for over 13 years and was on the faculty of Emory University Department of Emergency Medicine. He has been practicing hyperbaric medicine full time since 1998 with Hyperbaric Physicians of Georgia. He was formerly the Director of the Crawford Long Hospital Hyperbaric Medicine Unit. Dr. Beless is active in lecturing for the Emory University Medical School and residency programs on hyperbaric medicine and advanced wound care therapy.

Jann Blanton

Dr. Blanton is the Medical Director at HyperbaRXs at DeKalb (d.b.a. DeKalb Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Center). She has practiced hyperbaric medicine since 1999, as well as emergency medicine. She is also a part time clinical instructor for Emory Emergency Medicine Department at Grady Memorial Hospital. As a personal interest, she is an avid recreational diver with advanced certification.

Melanie Cooper

Dr. Cooper is a hyperbaric physician at the HyperbaRXs at DeKalb facility (d.b.a. DeKalb Hyperbaric Medicine & Wound Care Center). She serves as an Assistant Professor in Family and Preventive Medicine, and Assistant Professor in Hematology/Oncology, at Emory University School of Medicine. She was recognized in 1996 as the Family Practice Resident of the Year, Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Cooper has a high interest in research and has been published extensively. In addition to her academic appointments at Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Cooper is at the forefront in the search for a cure for Sickle Cell Anemia.

Belinda Marcus

Dr. Marcus is the Medical Director at HyperbaRXs at Northside Forsyth (d.b.a. North Georgia Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care). She has served in the emergency medical community since 2000, and has received several honors and awards demonstrating excellence in emergency medicine. She has been diligent in obtaining and furthering her knowledge in the areas of hyperbaric medicine, wound care management, ultrasound development, air care flight physician, HAZMAT/environmental response training, and advanced trauma and life support.

David Register

Dr. Register received training and experience in hyperbaric medicine through the U.S.A.F. and the Richland Medical Center. He is a hyperbaric physician at the HyperbaRXs at Saint Joseph's facility (d.b.a. Hyperbaric Medicine of North Atlanta - Saint Joseph's) and the Hyperbaric Physicians of Georgia @ Emory University Hospital-Midtown facility. In addition to his work in hyperbaric medicine, Dr. Register is also a private practice anesthesiologist. He has been extensively published in medical journals and contributed to several chapters in published books.

David Schwegman

Dr. Schwegman is the Medical Director of Hyperbaric Physicians of Georgia and the Medical Director of the HPG at Emory University Hospital Midtown location. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1998, completed his residency at The Ohio State University in 2001 and served as Chief Resident in 2000-2001. He joined the faculty at Emory University and served as Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine from 2001-2008. Prior to joining Hyperbaric Physicians of Georgia in 2009, Dr. Schwegman worked as an Emergency Physician for Northside Emergency Associates since 2008. In addition to his work with Hyperbaric Physicians of Georgia, Dr. Schwegman is also the Chief Medical Officer of HyperbaRXs.

Ron Stephens

Dr. Stephens is a hyperbaric physician, working primarily at our HyperbaRXs at DeKalb facility (d.b.a. Dekalb Hyperbaric Medicine & Wound Care Center). In addition to being certified in Primary Training Hyperbaric Medicine, he has also been certified in Advanced Burn Life Support and Advanced Wilderness Life Support. Dr. Stephens was appointed Chief of Surgical Services (1986-1988), Chief of General Surgery (1988-2001) and Chief of Staff (1994) at Crawford Long Hospital of Emory University; Chief of Surgery (1998-2001) Advanced Surgery Center of Georgia; Clinical Instructor (1979-2001) Emory University School of Medicine; and, Associate Professor of Surgery (1978-1970) at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Stephens was the personal physician to Evander Holyfield, World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, 1970-1994.

Marianne Taryla

Dr. Taryla is Medical Director of HyperbaRXs at Kennestone (d.b.a. Cobb Hyperbaric Medicine - at Kennestone Hospital). After training in hyperbaric medicine she joined Hyperbaric Physicians of Georgia in 2001. Dr. Taryla has a keen interest in wound care management and has taken a number of continuing medical education courses in this area. She continue to teach ACLS.

David Wishnew

| Dr. Wishnew is the Medical Director of the Austin Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center in Austin, Texas (a service of Austin Surgical Hospital). In addition to his work with wound care and hyperbaric medicine, Dr. Wishnew also specializes in plastic, reconstructive, cosmetic and hand surgery. He is professionally affiliated with the Susan B. Komen Foundation Grants Committe, Local affiliate, and is active in the foundation through community service. Dr. Wishnew was the recipient of the Texas Monthly "Super Doctor Award" 2004-2008.
